Q: Who is WreathsForTheFallen.org?
A: In the third quarter of 2009 Jason Olson, Motley, Minnesota, a Minnesota Patriot Guard Ride Captain for the Brainerd Sector had an idea of providing wreaths for all the veterans graves at the Minnesota State Veterans Cemetery. Till that time the only wreaths for the graves were provided for by donations from a relatively small group of generous benefactors. The first year of laying wreaths was in 2006 and 5 wreaths were placed at the cemetery. In its first year WreathsForTheFallen.org (as the organizations’ name became) increased the number of wreaths and the numbers soared from about 90 in 2008, 400 in 2009, 1492 in 2010, 2700 in 2011, 3200 in 2012, 3549 in 2013, 3800 in 2014 and a record breaking 4157 honor wreaths in 2015. when every veteran and their family interred there received a honor wreath. The years ahead are projected to be substantially greater as there are almost 500 burials every year.
